LEE WALLACE hopes Rangers have laid the foundations for a successful second half of the season with Scottish Cup victory over Motherwell.

The Light Blues left it late at Ibrox as they came from behind and secured a dramatic win thanks to a Kenny Miller brace.

Mark Warburton’s side return to Premiership action with a trip to Fir Park this weekend as they look to clinch second spot this term.

Wallace said: “No I don’t think [we felt as though the season was on the line] because you are in the emotions [of the game], you’re deep involved.

“The crowd were great, you could still hear their support and that definitely gave us a wee lift.

“That might have been the outside perception (season on the line) but when you’re involved in the game we just had a feeling and our style showed in the end, we showed good resolve, good character and answered a few questions.

“It’s a difficult place to be with ten minutes to go in the game when you’re one down at home, there maybe is that element of ‘oh no, here we go again’ but we showed great character and it was fully deserved in the end.

“It was good, it was important we came out of the break stronger, came out of the break learning of the back of the last competitive games.

“Obviously we knew we hadn’t won in three, if you include the Leipzig game in that but we were exposed to a really, really tough fixture which was great and did an enormous amount of learning off the back of that game.

“We had a good solid weeks training and we wanted to win this game and get ourselves into the next round and start the second half of this season in a positive manner.

“So we go to their place next weekend to get the league campaign up and running again and we want to go there and try to win again.”

Rangers were far from their best at Ibrox and looked to be heading out of the cup when Louis Moult headed the Steelmen in front with 16 minutes remaining.

But captain Wallace was delighted with the Gers’ response as Miller saved the day and booked a fifth round berth.

He said: “That’s twice we’ve managed to do it to Motherwell this season with late goals but it shows our fitness levels and our style in breaking a team down.

“Obviously Motherwell had a fairly low block in their press and their intentions were clear, to sit deep, deny space and look to try to counter-attack.

“They had a couple of chances from that but overall we were able to show our fitness levels late on in the game and Kenny did what he does best to get us through to the next round.”
