MARTYN WAGHORN reckons the Rangers squad have a clean slate at Ibrox under caretaker boss Graeme Murty.

Goals from Kenny Miller and Waghorn clinched a 2-1 win for the Gers over Morton last weekend just hours after Mark Warburton left the club.

Under-20 coach Murty will take the team against Dundee on Sunday as the Light Blues look to get back on track in the Premiership.

Waghorn said: “It is vitally important that we stick together as a team and we are all in it going forward, regardless of what happens or who comes in.

“It is a chance for everyone, it is a clean slate. Graeme has come in and said that everyone has got a fair crack at it. Do your jobs, work hard and you will be in with a shout.

“It gives everyone a fresh chance. There is nothing better than when everyone is on board and going forward that can only benefit the club.

“They are a solid team who work hard and have a good shape. They pose a threat on their attack too so it’s up to us to keep the ball, and it’s important we do that with purpose going forward and try to score goals and win the game.

“It’s going to be no different on Sunday. It will be difficult and they will make it hard for us, but we have the quality in the squad – whoever plays – to break them down and if we do things right, prepare properly and start the game with a good tempo, then we have enough quality to win the game.”

It has been a frustrating campaign so far for Waghorn as he has failed to recapture the form that made him a key part of the Gers attack in the Championship last term.

He was shifted to a more central role alongside Miller last weekend and was pleased to help the side get back to winning ways.

“It was good and we changed the formation for the last 20 minutes,” he told the Official Rangers Podcast.

“It was nice to get that link-up with another striker – at times we maybe could have done it a bit more but it’s the way the manager chose it.

“Murts chose to go down that route and it was nice to get the chance to link up with someone. Kenny is a vastly experienced and intelligent player and you know where he is going and the movements to make off him.

“That showed for parts of the game and it was nice to get my chance through the middle again.

“I don’t mind though. I like the 4-3-3 and I like the 4-4-2, and playing by myself or as a two.

“It’s my most natural position and it’s where I benefit the most. It’s just nice to get back out there, play 90 minutes and do it in winning terms.”
