ROBERT Rowan, the 26-year-old Scot who is currently the head of football operations at English Championship club Brentford, is being considered for the new director of football role at Rangers.

Officials of the Ibrox club are believed to have spoken to Rowan about the prospect of him becoming a part of their new coaching structure at Auchenhowie.

He was previously technical director at Stenhousemuir and has held scouting roles with Scottish champions Celtic and the SFA in the past.

Rangers are speaking to potential candidates for their vacant manager's position and for the new director of football role this week.

The Ladbrokes Premiership club are set to restructure their coaching department following the departure of their manager Mark Warburton, assistant manager Davie Weir and head of recruitment Frank McParland earlier this month.

Craig Moore, the former Rangers centre half who is currently football director at Brisbane Roar in Australia, has been mentioned as a potential candidate for the director of football post.

The ex-Rangers captain admitted that he was "extremely flattered" to be linked with a return to the Ibrox club at the weekend.

Elsewhere, Ross Wilson, the director of scouting at Southampton, Paul Mitchell, the head of recruitment at Tottenham Hotspur, have also been linked with the role.

Former Rangers boss Alex McLeish, Billy Davies, Alan Pardew and Derek McInnes are among the bookmakers' favourites to take over as manager. Rangers will look to appoint an interim manager to take over until the end of the season.

Graeme Murty, their under-20 coach, is currently in charge of the first team. He oversaw a 2-1 defeat to Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday which left his side six points adrift of second-placed Aberdeen in the Ladbrokes Premiership table.
