PEDRO CAIXINHA has brought his own backroom staff with him to Rangers but there is a place for another coach to come in to the club.

It will be someone that knows Rangers and knows Scottish football and hopefully he will be able to help Pedro adjust to life at Ibrox.

Pedro has coached in many different countries and has taken on board the advice of someone with local knowledge. I think you have to do that.

It is someone to come in and give him a hand and someone who can let him know what he will be up against in Scottish football.

There will be a lot of names under consideration for the role and people have already been talking about the likes of Barry Ferguson or Alex Rae. If someone of that ilk was prepared to come in, then great.

I think that is the type of person they will be looking for. Someone who knows the club, has done Rangers a turn and knows what it is like to be at Ibrox.

The big question when anyone, be it a manager or a player, comes to Rangers is whether they understand what it is all about and can handle it.

I remember years ago talking to Mark Walters about the Old Firm game. All the players had told him he wouldn’t believe the atmosphere and that the 90 minutes would pass him by.

He said ‘yeah, yeah, I have played in big games down south, I know what it is like’. I spoke to him a couple of days after it and he couldn’t believe the noise and the passion.

It is fine someone telling you about it, but until you are in there and you see it for yourself, you don’t believe it. It will be the same for Pedro.

I was disappointed to hear that Jim Stewart won't be part of the new management team, though. I have known Jim for years and he has helped bring on so many keepers at Rangers.

He would have wanted to stay and work with Pedro but he obviously wants to bring his own people in. He has been a good servant to the club and I am sure everyone will wish him well.
