PEDRO CAIXINHA insists Kenny Miller will have to play the Ibrox waiting game as he eyes a new Rangers contract this summer.

Miller has expressed his fears that he may be entering his final weeks in Light Blue after seeing deal talks put on the back burner in recent months.

The 37-year-old has been an integral part of the Gers squad once again this term but he won’t start against Kilmarnock tonight as Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner get set to lead the attack at Rugby Park.

Miller has started working on his coaching qualifications as he looks to make a move into the dugout in the future but he is determined to still pull on his boots next term.

And Caixinha will continue to consider his options in the coming weeks as he puts plans in place for his first full campaign at Ibrox.

He said: “All the players who are included in our list now… if their contract is either about to end, like Clint Hill or Kenny, by the end of May, or whether they have longer contracts, they all finish under my supervision.

“So just because I haven’t spoken to Kenny or anyone else, it means nothing regarding their continuation here or having their contracts ended. That’s all I can tell you now.

“Will I have the final say on that? If not, I’m doing nothing here.

“Football, for me, is not about age or experience. I cannot play because I’m 46 years old and we all have some limits.

“But when you are in those moments you can call it like outliers – that’s when something is out of range or out with the average. It’s too fantastic and Kenny is at that level.

“He’s doing great and he’s a player I like to have in the squad because I’m not playing and I can’t be on the bench with a remote control so you need to have coaches [on the pitch] as well, players with that experience and understanding of the game.

“It’s important to have people in the squad who are role models for the others.

“I am a guy of character, I am a guy with a strong personality and I need to have players with those conditions as well for us to take things along. Otherwise, it’s difficult to deal with the demands.”

Rangers head to Rugby Park third in the Premiership standings and 13 points adrift of Aberdeen in the race to be best of the rest this term.

Miller has lead by example in Light Blue as he has netted nine goals and assumed roles across the Gers forward line and midfield.

And Caixinha insists only he will decide when the time is right to make a decision on the future of the former Scotland striker.

He said: “I am the one who chooses the time. Not him, not you, not anyone.

“When I choose the time, for me, it will be the right time to pass onto him and all of the others.

“I learned one thing when I was an assistant coach. You learn good and fantastic things from your manager, but one day when you know you will be acting as the manager, you know there are some things you are not going to do.

“Behind the football player, you have a man. In Kenny’s case, it’s not a young man. It’s a family man, a father who has a whole life behind him.

“When you are taking the decisions, you are not just affecting the footballer, you are affecting everything.

“When I have one decision and that decision is not to continue, they need to know that from me directly.

“This is part of my way of seeing life, being frontal, being current and telling people what I think at that exact moment.

“I don’t want people to feel regret about nothing. They need to know the decision from me, for better or worse.”
