Wes Foderingham 6 Made some important saves in the second half, most notably from Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts. By then, had conceded twice. Appeared to lose his bearings and caught completely flat-footed with Callum McGregor opener. Great effort to stop Scott Sinclair’s penalty, but should he have come to intercept initial through ball?

James Tavernier 5 Half-decent effort, but played pivotal part in Celtic’s clinching spot-kick award when he lost the footrace with Griffiths and dived in to the challenge. Seen rarely in attack.

Danny Wilson 5 Was always going to have a busy afternoon, and, on the whole, got through his defensive duties without too much drama as the senior partner in the Rangers central defensive duo.

David Bates 5 Managed to keep out Moussa Dembele once in the first-half by holding him up, but, was dragged out of position as the Celtic striker set-up the opening strike. Will benefit from the experience.

Myles Beerman 5 For all that his direct opponent, Patrick Roberts, saw a lot of possession, Beerman was solid in defence, less prominent going forward. Rangers lost, but not because of him.

Emerson Hyndman 4 Looked like a wee boy lost against a better organised and more combative Celtic midfield. Had to do a lot of chasing. Replaced after 70 minutes by Windass.

Jason Holt 5 Lasted the 90 minutes but did little to influence proceedings or challenge the all-dominant Celtic midfield. A tad better than others but not one for the scrap album.

Andy Halliday 3 Completely negated his effectiveness in what would be a hotly contested midfield area when he scythed down Roberts and was booked after three minutes. Unable to tackle, he was a liability thereafter. Made it to half-time.

Kenny Miller 6 Never gave up, but was never going to be on the winning team. Had Gers effort on goal after an hour, a headed saved by Craig Gordon, who also kept out the veteran striker’s close-range effort late on.

Martyn Waghorn 4 Stated in the build-up to this game he could become a goal machine like Ally McCoist and Kris Boyd. Except either of them would probably have buried the late diving header he missed late on. Frustratingly offside too often.

Joe Garner 2 Started, hooked at half-time – 2

Substitutes

Joe Dodoo 4 After Garner’s no-show was given 45 minutes to prove himself, always a tall order once Celtic went two up. One piece of trickery set up Miller, but little else.

Barrie McKay 4 Not surprising that Pedro Caixinha turned to the man who netted a wonder goal in this corresponding fixture 12 months ago. Nowhere near as effective as his manager needed, mainly due to some woeful set-piece deliveries.

Josh Windass 3 Given last 20 minutes to turn things around – a task, at that stage of proceedings, I’d compare to doing a handbrake turn in an oil tanker.
