MARTYN WAGHORN is determined to realise his European dream with Rangers next season as he looks to end the current campaign as the top marksman at Ibrox.

The striker picked up the Sam English Bowl at the Light Blues’ Player of the Year Awards on Sunday night.

His 15 goals puts him three ahead of Kenny Miller heading into the final five Premiership fixtures in the coming weeks.

Rangers are on course to clinch a Europa League berth this term and still have their sights set on second-placed Aberdeen as they look to finish best of the rest behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.

It has been a frustrating campaign for the Gers but Waghorn hopes there is plenty to look forward to next time out under the guidance of boss Pedro Caixinha.

He told RangersTV: “We are at that stage where we are all fighting to play in the team and to stay in the team, and now the target is to get into Europe. If we can get there after [Sunday’s] result it would be an achievement, and I am hugely looking forward to it.

“As a striker though, you do want to finish on top. Kenny is right behind me and he has had a fantastic season, and yet again has set the example and set the standards high for people like me and others can definitely learn from him.

“Europe is something we’d love to do if I’m in the manager’s plans again next season and hopefully I can hit some form and stay fit for the whole season, and that’s a big challenge I would like to try and do.

“As a footballer you have got to do that, and you’d be daft if you didn’t want to, so to get the chance at this club is very exciting when you look back at the nights they have had here.

“I want to stay at this club, it’s a great club and challenge on all fronts again next season which has got to be our target.”
