ROSS MCCRORIE was frustrated that Rangers failed to shine on the Hampden stage as they missed out on Youth Cup success.

An inexperienced Light Blues line-up were beaten 3-0 by Celtic on Wednesday night as goals from Sam Wardrop, Calvin Miller and Aidan McIlduff clinched the win for the Hoops.

Skipper McCrorie and brother Robby were at fault for Celtic’s second of the night as they failed to deal with Conor Hazard’s long ball and Miller converted into an empty net.

Within minutes of the restart after the break, the game was gone for the Gers as keeper McCrorie couldn’t prevent McIlduff’s finding the back of his net.

Boss Graeme Murty was disappointed with a poor performance from his side as they missed out on the silverware.

And defender McCrorie knows the Gers have to respond in the right way as they look to earn another shot at glory this term.

He said: “We always knew we would be up against it but we believed in ourselves from the start. It was unfortunate with the result.

“They were very poor goals and a lot of the disappointment is the manner in which we lost the goals.

“They could all have been stopped but there were mistakes. For myself, I am disappointed with the second goal.

“You could see the age gap but that is not an excuse. It is the Under-20s Youth Cup and we were in it to win it. It just didn’t happen on the day.

“Celtic bossed us about the pitch in certain areas. They were more clinical and when they got their chances they took them. We made individual mistakes and they cost us.

“There were some neat bits of play and we were brave in some areas trying to play. We will take that into our analysis and we will see where we went wrong.

“We will be back next year and we will definitely go for the win next year.”
