RANGERS fan group Club 1872 has been hit by two further resignations that leaves James Blair as the sole director in charge.

The organisation was left reeling in March as Laura Fawkes, Joanne Percival and Iain Leiper stepped down from the board just months after being elected by members.

That left Craig Houston, William Cowie, Alex Wilson and Blair, who is also the Gers' Company Secretary, at the helm but Houston then quit this week citing ‘personal reasons’.

It was announced on Monday night that Fawkes and Percival would be re-joining Club 1872 with ‘immediate effect’ and members are currently being polled on whether they should return to the top table.

A Club 1872 statement read: “Laura and Joanne are completely committed to Club 1872 and to its one member, one vote ethos and would wish the members to be given the opportunity to decide on their return as Board members. It is a key decision for Club 1872 and one to be taken by its members.”

The news that Fawkes and Percival were seeking re-election came just hours before Cowie and Wilson decided to step down from their positions after becoming increasingly frustrated with the running of Club 1872.

The pair were elected to the inaugural seven member board in September and in a statement on Tuesday evening said: “It is with deep regret that we find ourselves having to resign from the board of Club 1872 and associated companies with immediate effect.”

Club 1872 were formed after several fan groups – including the Rangers Supporters Trust and Rangers First – came together under one umbrella last year.

The organisation are the fifth largest shareholders in Rangers International Football Club plc and Cowie added: “My resignation has nothing to do with Laura and Joanne personally. I wish them both well.”

Club 1872 members now have until midnight on Sunday to cast their vote over whether Fawkes and Percival should return to the board.

A source told SportTimes: “A new properly constituted board will be put in place. It will be in the best interests of Club 1872, Rangers fans and therefore the club.”
