DAVID BATES was disappointed Rangers bowed out on a defeat at Ibrox as they crashed to a 2-1 loss against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

The Dons ended their 26-year long wait for victory in Govan as goals from Graeme Shinnie and Ryan Christie wrapped up second spot in the Premiership standings.

It was another 90 minutes to forget for the Light Blues and just one match remains this term before they can consign a wretched campaign to the history books.

Bates was joined at the heart of the Gers defence by 18-year-old Aidan Wilson for the Reds clash and the Auchenhowie graduated turned in decent showings.

But the former Raith Rovers kid was gutted Caixinha’s side couldn’t repay the home crowd with a morale-boosting win.

Bates said: “We are all really disappointed. To end to season with a defeat at Ibrox isn’t great, especially against one of our rivals.

“We said before the game we wanted to end with a win for the fans at home.

“I don’t think we got going at all at any point of the game and play the way we want to play. Nothing went for us.

“We didn’t dictate the game, we let them dictate us if I am being honest. That makes it even worse.

“I have played with Aidan a couple of times with the 20s and I know he is a capable player to make the step up.

“It is a hard one to take positives from when it is a 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen at home.

“It is frustrating for me [that the season is coming to an end]. But we are getting defeats at home to end the season, I don’t look for positives. It is just disappointing.

“When you are on the park, you put [the crowd] to the side and focus on the game. Everything around you will take care of itself.

“When the fans get going, you can see the players get a lift, the whole team gets a lift.

“Being a Rangers fan myself, we are out there getting beat 2-0 by Aberdeen, it is disappointing. We shouldn’t be in that state.”
