PEDRO CAIXINHA is pleased he has had a couple of months to assess his Rangers squad after bringing the curtain down on their first campaign back in the Premiership.

The Portuguese saw his side clinch a 2-1 win over St Johnstone yesterday as goals from Kenny Miller and Jon Toral ensured the Gers finished a disappointing season on a positive note.

Caixinha was appointed as Mark Warburton’s successor in March and said: “I’m definitely glad to have had an overview in the last two months.

“One of the main reasons we came to the club early from Qatar and and why Rangers had to pay for us to come was to asses and make decisions. That was really important.

“If we could not have arrived two months ago and would only have arrived at the end of the season it could have been different, but now we have made decision and are working on the next steps and we’re just waiting on it.

“It will be something different next season, definitely.”

Caixinha was surrounded by a group of Gers fans at the final whistle as he celebrated a job well done on the final day of the campaign.

The Light Blues have just a couple of weeks before they return to action and the 46-year-old is determined to deliver success to supporters next time out.

Caixinha said: “For sure I hope there will be more success for them in future. We work for the supporters.

“We have the best fans in the world. We love to make them happy and we want to share that happiness with them.

“It’s true results have been irregular and we’ve just finished our fourth game away from home and our performances away from home have not been that bad.

“We drew at Kilmarnock, which was a game we were supposed to win and the other three we won. Our performances have not been bad away, but we need to improve a lot of the situations.

“The way the team played today pleased me because they understood some games have different formulas to explore.”
