KENNY MILLER is confident he can see off the arrival of striking reinforcements this summer to lead the Rangers attack next season.

The striker hit his 14th goal of an impressive campaign in the 2-1 win over St Johnstone on Sunday as Pedro Caixinha’s side rounded off a disappointing season on a high note.

Miller has already been rewarded with a new Ibrox contract as boss Caixinha gets set to overhaul his squad in the coming weeks.

And the 37-year-old insists any new recruits will have to be at their best to take his place in the Light Blues’ starting line-up.

Miller said: “I have just played three 90 minutes in a week at the end of the season. I feel brand new.

“There is absolutely no reason why [I can’t be a first pick next season] and there is no way I am going to settle for sitting watching football when I feel I have got a lot to offer.

“After three games at the end of the season, I feel brand new. There is no reason why next year I can’t go on and be better.

“I am always critical of myself and I could have had another three or four goals. You are not going to score every chance but the ones that stick in your mind are Celtic at Ibrox, that should have been buried and got us a point in that game.

“There are other chances in the season that should have been put away so I could have had towards 17, 18 mark. Moving on, I am looking to improve next year.

“I have been all over the pitch this year, particularly towards the end. That instinct is always there to get into the box, get on the end of crosses and make runs. It is not a bad return but I always look to get better and there are two or three that could have went in.

“I have been there many a time and you are always going to sign players at a club like this. If we sign a player in my position, it is up to them to come and be better than me.”

The form of Miller has been one of the few positives for Rangers this term as they have ended the campaign empty handed and third in the Premiership standings.

The Gers are back in pre-season training on June 5 ahead of their return to the Europa League and another crack at the top flight under Caixinha’s guidance.

And Miller is determined to look forward to a brighter future after a difficult term on and off the park at Ibrox.

He said: "I am happy the season is over to be honest with you. You can't take your foot off the gas at this club.

“Every game, there is always a meaning to it, so it was nice to finish on a high, especially bouncing back after the result on Wednesday.

"It is important, there is no doubt that recruitment is going to be important, this summer is going to be huge. We need to be far more consistent.

“But I am bored saying it. We need to look after ourselves, not worry about what anyone else is doing, and just look to improve.

“Recruitment becomes key for us. A lot has been made in the last month or so about a lot of comings and goings, which there obviously will be. We will wait and see what the summer brings.

“We get a short break, a short turnaround, and back to work in a few weeks - looking forward to what will hopefully be a European campaign as well. Hopefully we will be far, far better next year and can kick on.”
