It will certainly be interesting to see what Pedro Caixinha can do in the summer to make Rangers a better side, and I’ve been impressed by some of the players that he has been linked with so far.

Louis Moult of Motherwell is a player who might not capture the imagination of Rangers supporters in the way that some of the big-name signings of the past have, but you can’t ignore his record over the last two seasons.

The forward has managed to score 18 goals in each of the last two campaigns for a struggling Motherwell side, and any player that has that knack of knowing where the net is should be sniffed at.

What has impressed me most about Moult in the times that I have watched him is that he can score all sorts of goals.

Rangers have witnessed that first-hand this season with the goals he scored against them, and he scored a couple of peaches against Celtic at Fir Park earlier in the season too.

He is strong in the air and has that predatory instinct that all good strikers have, as well as being a handful for defenders with his physical style too.

The only stumbling block for me would be on the price being mentioned. I don’t think it would make sense for Rangers to part with half a million quid and Michael O’Halloran, a player who cost them about the same amount in the first place.

Yes, O’Halloran has struggled since making the step up to Rangers, but there is always the risk that Moult would find that hard to deal with too.

If Rangers could do a straight swap, then I think that would be a very good bit of business.

I have always maintained that it is important for players who come into a club like Rangers to know a little of what Scottish football is about, but especially what Rangers are all about.

It is such a huge club, and as a player, if you can’t handle being in the limelight and having your every move dissected and scrutinised, then it is not the place for you.

A lot of players can’t deal with that, but I fancy that Ryan Jack would be able to. He has been the Aberdeen captain from a young age, is now experienced and coming into the prime of his career, and he knows the game here inside out.

On top of that, from a competitive point of view, taking one of the best players from one of your direct rivals has to be seen as a major coup if Rangers manage to pull it off.

It is still early days in the summer, even though Rangers have games in just a few weeks’ time, but I’ve been encouraged by the names that have been touted for the club so far.
