RANGERS confirmed the appointment of Mark Allen as Director of Football this week and he will leave his position at Manchester City to make the move to Ibrox.

It will certainly be a challenge for him because the resources he will be working with are completely different. City have all the money in the world, but Rangers don’t.

At City, whether it is at youth level or first team level, you can attract the best players and you can invest in your side any time you want. It is different for Rangers.

But, having brought Mark into the club, I am sure the board will give him all the help that he needs to succeed in his new role in the coming months and years.

One of the first things Mark will look to work on is the scouting network and that is really important for the club.

We need to be able to find players on a budget that can produce on the park for us and then potentially be sold on at a profit a couple of years down the line.

The job as a Director of Football for Rangers is a change from being Head of Academy at the Etihad but I am sure it is one that Mark will relish.

He knows the game and he has had success at Man City over the last few years. He also has a business background as well and that would have been attractive to the Rangers board.

Mark will be fully aware what he is coming into here and what is expected of him and only time will tell how he does at Ibrox.

He will need to get his feet under the table quickly and his relationship with Pedro Caixinha will be crucial as Rangers look to progress on and off the park.
