PEDRO CAIXINHA insists his Rangers squad must meet his high standards or head for the Ibrox exit door.

The Portuguese has already released Clint Hill, Philippe Senderos, Emerson Hyndman and Jon Toral at the end of their respective deals, sold Joe Garner to Ipswich and allowed Andy Halliday to leave on loan this summer.

Eight players have signed on the dotted line ahead of the Light Blues’ return to the Europa League and the new Premiership campaign.

Winger Barrie McKay won’t be involved against Progres Niederkorn this evening after being told to train with the Under-20 squad.

The 22-year-old has yet to sign an extension to his deal and is now fighting for his Gers future as Caixinha targets further reinforcements to his squad.

And the Ibrox boss will continue to take a tough stance towards players he feels are not hitting the required heights.

Caixinha said: “He (McKay) has a day off today (Wednesday) because the 20s are not training.

“No, he’s not [in the squad for the Progres game].

“I think everyone needs to understand that Rangers have a profile and standard.

“If you have the standards to keep, or even to raise those standards and defend those standards, you’ll be receiving one chance to stay on. If not, life goes on.

“I’m not talking about names. I’m talking about standards from this club and standards regarding to my choices. That’s what I’m talking about.

“I’m not talking about any specific players. I’m talking to all the players, including the new ones that are coming.

“They need to understand that things are going in this direction, the normal direction that the club is taking also.

“I don’t want to discuss individual cases. I’m focused on [tonight’s] match. If he (McKay) is not on the list he cannot help us to do brilliantly.

“I’m just focused now on this first leg. After that the second leg, and following the plan that we have regarding the players who are going to stay with us and the players who need to leave the club.”

Having added the likes of Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera to his ranks already this summer, Caixinha is now targeting another couple of recruits to put the finishing touches to his rebuilding job.

Defender Rob Kiernan, midfielders Harry Forrester and Matt Crooks and forwards Michael O’Halloran and Joe Dodoo were all left out of the Europa League squad this week.

But Caixinha isn’t fazed by the clear-out that he faces to trim his squad back down to size before the transfer window closes at the end of August.

He said: “We have time. The time we have to bring in new players is exactly the same to put players out.

“I don’t want to speak about individuals. The players know what I spoke about on an individual basis and that’s what matters to me.

“They know what I want from them, or the reason why I am not counting on them.”
