CARLOS CARVALHAL admits Rangers were worthy winners at Hillsborough as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Goals in either half from Josh Windass and Kenny Miller clinched a deserved victory for Pedro Caixinha’s side as they rounded off their pre-season schedule on a high note.

The Gers drew with Marseille and beat Watford prior to making the trip to Yorkshire for the final warm-up before the new Premiership campaign.

It was an accomplished showing from Caixinha’s side and now attentions have turned to the top flight opener with Motherwell on Sunday.

The Owls will begin their Championship promotion bid against Preston this weekend and boss Carvalhal was frustrated with the performance in front of the home crowd.

He said: “Rangers had good organisation. They started three weeks earlier than us because they played two games in the Europa League and of course they have more tempo and more energy, they are ready to start their season. In my opinion that made a difference.

“In the first half we were very milky. We didn’t play our football. I think we were a little nervous, with a lot of fans from Glasgow Rangers on that side and it being our first game of the season at Hillsborough.

“We were a little nervous in some situations. We didn’t play our football. In the second half were played more our football, more offensive. We created some chances against a team which was very organised in defence.

“They play very compact and very solid, they try to play on the counter-attack. We played a team more ready than us.

“They started playing 90 minutes three weeks before us. But they are very organised. It is a good team. We expected this kind of game.

“They made it very difficult for us after they scored. They are organised in defence, I like their team. I think they will have a good season.”
