MARTYN WAGHORN says he will 'always be a Rangers fan' after leaving the club to join Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

The striker, who scored 44 goal in 79 games while at Ibrox, signed a two-year deal at Portman Road on Monday with the option for a third season.

He will team up with his Light Blues teammate from last season, Joe Garner, at the English Championship club.

Waghorn was the Gers' top scorer in both of the last two campaigns, but the summer arrivals of the likes of Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos saw his chances of regular game time under manager Pedro Caixinha diminish.

ā€œI know about all the history of Ipswich and watched the Club when they were in Europe. I know what a good club it is so itā€™s a great opportunity for me,ā€ the former England U21 international told iFollow.

ā€œI was at Sunderlandā€™s Academy and was a ballboy at games when he [Mick McCarthy] was manager there so I know all about the manager here as well. Heā€™s achieved a lot in the game and Iā€™m grateful to him for giving me the chance to come here and play games.

ā€œItā€™s an exciting move for me. You get a fresh buzz when you join a new club. Thatā€™s how I feel. Itā€™s a new start and Iā€™m really looking forward to it.

ā€œIā€™m 27 and feel Iā€™m coming into my prime now and feel my best football is yet to come. Ā

ā€œI know some of the lads already, Garns [Joe Garner] from Rangers, Emyr [Huws]. They are good players. There is a good squad here.

ā€œI have played regularly over the last few years and scored a few goals. I know about the Championship. I played in a couple of Play-Offs so hopefully I can bring that experience and kick on here and help Ipswich have a good season and have some success here.ā€
