PEDRO CAIXINHA said before the game with Dunfermline that he was confident that Kenny Miller, Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos would get the goals that Rangers needed this season.

On Wednesday night, he saw Kenny open the scoring and Morelos get his first two goals since joining from HJK Helsinki earlier in the summer. If Herrera gets a chance against Hibernian this weekend, hopefully he can get off the mark as well.

One of the positives for the manager against Dunfermline was the fact that the goals came from different areas of the team. Bruno Alves scored a terrific free-kick, James Tavernier got his first of the season and Daniel Candeias curled one in as well.

It is great if you have got the luxury of having goals come from across the park and you have defenders and midfielders scoring. That is always a bonus.

But, for me, when you talk about Rangers, we have always had a striker, whether it was myself, Mark Hateley, Ally McCoist or Kris Boyd, that you could rely on to get 20 plus a season.

It was good to see Morelos score his first goals and hopefully they are the first of many but there are no guarantees when it comes to how success he, Kenny or Herrera will be this season.

I would like to see a box player come into the squad. I like a centre forward that is always in the area challenging and getting on the end of things and sniffing out chances.

I know Rangers got six goals against Dunfermline but that won’t be the case every week.

When you are up against Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen or Celtic, you need to make the most of the chances that you create. You need a poacher.

There are no guarantees in football but if you have someone that has a proven track record of scoring goals at a good level then you would fancy them to get a few in a team that looks like it will create plenty of chances this season.

Listen, maybe Morelos will be that player. I thought he worked hard on Wednesday night and it was the best he has played since he arrived.

His goals will certainly give him confidence and maybe he will go on and get a lot of goals this season.

When you are a striker and you join a club, the first goal can often be the most important one because that sets you off and running.

You saw Morelos’ reaction when he got his goal and you could see how much it meant to him. It would have been more relief than anything else.

There is something there with him. I haven’t seen it before but I saw it on Wednesday night and now he has to prove himself against Premiership opposition.

He showed his strength to hold the ball up and he was keen to get it back when he lost it.

Most importantly, he showed that he can put the ball in the back of the net. He looked like he really enjoyed the game and the goals so hopefully there are plenty more moments like that for him this season.

When it comes to Herrera, he hasn’t shown much of a goal threat in the matches that he has played so far. It will be interesting to see if he comes back into the side this weekend.

The manager will have faith that Herrera can do him a turn but he has to decide when he plays because I don’t see him dropping Kenny unless he has an injury or really loses his form.

Pedro has said that he is still keen to bring a couple of players in. And I would hope that one of them will be another striker.

It was a great result against Dunfermline and the team played well, but I still think we need another centre forward.

The manager clearly has faith in the strikers that he has got at the club and only time will tell if Morelos and Herrera can do the business this season.

It is important that the fans remain patient with them and give them a chance to find their feet at Rangers and in Scottish football.

Pedro has spoken about the physicality of the game here and while that is something that we are all well aware of, it is a factor that the likes of Morelos and Herrera will have to become accustomed to.

That is the way the game is played here. It is the old saying ‘get intae them’. That is what teams do here, especially when they are up against Rangers.

If you are not used to the pace and the tackling of the game, then it will take you time to get up to speed. I am sure both of them, and the likes of Fabio Cardoso and Daniel Candeias, have noticed so far.

All good players can learn how to adapt, though. They will know they need to think quicker and move the ball quicker or they could take a few dull ones, as happened on a couple of occasions against Dunfermline.

That is what you have got to expect and accept because that is Scottish football and if you can’t handle that then you won’t be a success at Rangers. Once everyone gets used to that, I think they will be fine.
