JORDAN ROSSITER insists he won’t forget his nightmare first season at Ibrox as he looks to make his mark in Light Blue this term.

The midfielder made just six appearances for the Gers last time out following his summer switch from Liverpool.

After a promising start to the season, his campaign came to a premature end as a lengthy injury kept him out of action for several months.

Rossiter got 90 minutes under his belt as Pedro Caixinha’s side beat Dunfermline on Wednesday night and is pleased to be heading in the right direction once again.

He said: “Listen, I had an absolute nightmare of a season last season and it was really frustrating for me. But I have come through it and the physios and Sports Science lads have been brilliant with me.

“To be honest, at the moment I am happy to be involved back with the lads and training every day. In the long term, I need to keep on working, keep on getting fitness.

“It is up to me to stay fit and keep on putting pressure on the lads. I am not going to throw my arms up and say I need to be in the team. I just need to keep my head down and work hard.

“Yeah, definitely [it has made me mentally stronger]. I wouldn’t say I forgot last season because you always have to remember and I never want to be in that situation again.

“It is up to me to work hard on and off the field and the support is there for me. I just need to keep on training and do well.”

The return of Rossiter has been a real boost for boss Caixinha as he has overhauled his Gers ranks over the summer.

Midfield pair Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans have made an instant impact at Ibrox in recent weeks and Rossiter is relishing the battle for a starting spot.

He said: “I think it is good for the team going forward. We are a team of lads and grown men and the competition is good for us.

“I am sure we are all going to support each other this season and for our final goals that is what we need to do. We need healthy competition and I am up for the challenge, as everyone else is.

“There are eleven shirts at the end of the day and we are all working towards getting in the team. But it is a squad game so that is what we need to focus on.

“The gaffer was superb. He came in towards the latter stage of my injury so he saw a bit of what I was going through. He has been first class.

“To get the opportunity to play back in front of the fans was really pleasing and I thank him for it. Hopefully now I can kick on and stay fit.”

It was a night of many positives for Caixinha on Wednesday as striker Alfredo Morelos, Bruno Alves and Daniel Candeias all hit their first goals for the Gers.

And Rossiter is pleased to see the new Light Blues recruits getting their Ibrox careers off to a positive start this season.

He said: “All the new lads have been absolutely first class. Coming into a different country, playing in a different league, it might take a bit of time.

“But the lads are doing brilliantly at the moment and I am delighted for Alfredo because he is a good lad and he works hard in training. What he does in training, you saw it in the game, so hopefully he keeps on doing it.

“Everybody needs a bit of time to adapt and we are all human. But the lads have been brilliant and the last four or five performances have shown that the lads have adapted well so that is only going to be good for the season.”
