BRUNO ALVES admits it was a ‘special feeling’ to score his first goal for Rangers on Wednesday night.

The Portuguese defender curled home a terrific free-kick to put Pedro Caixinha’s side 2-0 up against Dunfermline as the Gers eased their way to a 6-0 Betfred Cup win.

Alves sprinted towards the dugout to celebrate with Caixinha and his staff and was delighted to showcase his dead ball talents in front of the Ibrox crowd.

He said: “I have scored some free-kicks previously in my career – but none for the national team because Ronaldo never lets me take any!

“Candeias was supposed to take the one on Wednesday night, but I asked him if I could have it because I like taking them from that area of the pitch.

“I am not sure I will be taking them all the time, though, because we have a lot of good technical players who can shoot from these positions.

“When I scored, I was just thinking about running over to the bench and celebrating with everyone. It was a special feeling.”
