Thousands of Rangers fans have thrown their support being a petition calling for a safe-standing zone in Ibrox, similar to the one the Green Brigade and other Hopps fans use in Celtic Park.

Started just 22 hours ago by footie fan Duncan Martin, the petition has received close to 5,000 signatures with more being added with each passing minute.

Entitled ‘Safe standing in the Copland Front at Ibrox Stadium’, the Change.org page has urged fans: “Sign this petition to be sent to Dave King and the board of Rangers Football Club if you want to see safe standing in the Copland Front at Ibrox.”

The petition is then set to be delivered to Rangers FC in the hope it will be seriously considered.

Glasgow Times:

Hundreds of supporters posted their reasons for signing the petition, with dozens claiming that a safe-standing area would improve the atmosphere in the stadium.

“It’s about bloody time. Let’s get the auld girl shaking to the foundations once more, Fortress Ibrox, noise deafening,” wrote Neilly McBride from Lennoxtown.

However, others posted their their non-support.

One woman from Glasgow said the move would be a “danger hazard.”

The petition has also been widely-shared on Facebook where one supporter wrote: “We need safe standing to create a more intimidating atmosphere at ibrox for opponents.”

Rangers fan page Ibrox Loyal also made an impassioned plea.

A post from the page said: “I’d  love if Rangers gave serious consideration to turning the full Copland Front at Ibrox into a safe standing/rail seating area.

“Moved the Union Bears into the middle of the Copland Front, and then put everyone who wants to jump/sing around them.

“Ibrox would be absolutely rocking on a match day, and the Copland Rear would then probably join in.

“If the Copland sings, Ibrox sings.”

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson said at the end of last year the club would “look at” the possibility of introducing a safe-standing area at Ibrox, however, plans have yet to materialise.

Celtic was granted permission from authorities in June 2015 to introduce a safe-standing area, based on versatile seating common at German grounds, to accommodate up to 2,600 supporters.
