LEE WALLACE insists Rangers won’t push the panic button in the Premiership despite taking just four points from their first three top flight fixtures.

Pedro Caixinha’s side were held to a goalless draw by Hearts on Saturday as they lost further ground on Celtic and Aberdeen in the standings.

After opening their campaign with a win over Motherwell, five points have been dropped to Hibs and Hearts in the last week.

It is far from the start that boss Caixinha would have targeted and skipper Wallace can understand the frustrations of the Ibrox crowd.

He said: “We would have been looking for a far better start, especially now we have had two home games back to back.

“We have only got one point from that. We demand high standards, but, at the same time, it is not a disaster for us.

“We recognise it is not the start we wanted, but we are going to be working hard to put that right and the only way to do that is to get back training and trying to make things better. Hopefully, we can regain that momentum that I spoke about.

“We always have that [pressure from the fans]. The guys know that’s what we’ve got.

“We have always got pressure on us in every single game whether it is a friendly game or a league game.

“We are always going to have pressure on us. It is something that the new guys coming into the team knew about and it is certainly something that we feel. But that just goes with the territory.

“For me, irrespective of any pressure that they put on us or any restlessness during games, they are the best fans out there.

“It is a privilege to play in front of them every week, home or away. As a player and as players down in that dressing room we are proud to represent that.

“But, equally, we are very disappointed when we are not sending them home with a win.”

While Rangers have struggled for form in the opening weeks of the campaign, their Old Firm rivals have stormed out of the starting blocks once again.

Victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park saw Brendan Rodgers’ side extend their advantage over the Gers ahead of their Champions League clash with Astana.

But Wallace insists Caixinha and his players will only focus on the job in hand at Ibrox as they strive for further improvement this season.

He said: “Obviously, we just worry about ourselves and the small worry at the moment is that we have had two home games and we have only taken one point from that.

“We absolutely respect and understand what is going on across there, but we always look to ourselves.

“You will hear a number of players and managers saying that they will always look to themselves.

“While we are disappointed today we will certainly look to learn from it and be better for the next game. We want to try and regain that momentum and close the gap.”

Having got their season off to a nightmare start as they crashed out of the Europa League to Progres Niederkorn, Rangers needed to hit the ground running in the Premiership this term.

The spotlight is on boss Caixinha ahead of the trip to Ross County this weekend and Wallace knows the Light Blues squad have to step up to the mark.

He said: “No [we don’t feel the manager is under pressure], we are just disappointed in the fact that there is that gap and we have not started the way that we wanted to.

“Every single game that we go into we want to win and we haven’t done that in the last two weeks. That is the overriding feeling in that dressing room, nothing else regarding the manager.

“We are fully behind what is going on here. We as players need to recognise that we need to start kicking on and regaining that momentum.”
