Rangers captain Lee Wallace has been ruled out of both Glasgow derbies this week.

Manager Pedro Caixinha confirmed Wallace would not make Tuesday's Betfred Cup quarter-final against Partick Thistle or Saturday's visit of Ladbrokes Premiership champions Celtic.

The left-back went off with a groin injury during the 2-2 league draw against Thistle on Friday.

Caixinha said: "It's always a disappointment when you lose players. I would like to have everyone fit and besides that Lee is our captain.

"At the moment he is heading to Manchester to be assessed and we will see how much time he is going to be out."

Former Cardiff full-back Declan John made his debut against Thistle as a 12th-minute substitute and the 22-year-old will face the Jags on Tuesday despite reporting an ankle problem after Friday's game.

"He didn't play that much with Cardiff City so he's a little bit out of rhythm but he is one player that we trust totally," Caixinha said.

"He is going to give us different things than Lee would because they have different characteristics, even though they play in the same position.

"He has all our confidence and (on Tuesday) for sure he is going to be on the pitch and have a very good game.

"If he cannot play (on Saturday) we still have an option but I am not going to guess what's going to happen on Saturday before things happen on Tuesday. Now he is ready to play and after he will have four days to recover. Then we will have time to decide."

Kenny Miller will be rested for the cup tie while Niko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter both miss out with knee injuries, but Caixinha revealed Graham Dorrans would play despite a weekend illness.

The Portuguese coach added: "We have five captains, and I can tell you that for this game we are just going to count with two captains - Dorrans and Bruno Alves. One of them will use the armband. Niko and Kenny are also not in the game."

On Miller, he said: "We are giving him a break. He will have a day off and he is going to enjoy it with his family. I want him to switch off from football at the moment. We have a squad that can do the job."
