THE reaction from Daniel Candeias when he scored against Hamilton on Friday night will have meant a lot to Pedro Caixinha.

The players know what is going on at the club and they will be well aware that if things aren’t going well then the stick will be flying towards them and the manager from their own fans and from the media.

Some of that might hurt these players but a lot of them have come in and haven’t hit the ground running. It hasn’t been a great start to the season.

Candeias ran straight to the dugout when he scored and it was him saying to the fans ‘this is the man that has brought me here and I am going to fight for him’. It was good for the manager to get that public show of support.

But I don’t think the Rangers fans will read too much into it. At the end of the day, it is all about the results.

The supporters don’t care who likes who or who doesn’t like who in the dressing room. They just want to see everyone pulling in the same direction for the good of Rangers.

The only way that Pedro will keep his job is if he wins games and he is successful. Managers don’t get long these days and if you don’t do the business then the fans will be on your back.

The only thing that matters is winning matches. I don’t think Rangers were great on Friday, but it was a good win for us.

It is fine for the players to show affection for the manager, but they need to perform for him on a more consistent basis and win week after week.

If that happens, Pedro will feel better, the fans won’t be as critical and the pressure on him and the team will ease.

The only way he is going to get rid of that is by getting the team playing and getting the team winning more often and that has to start sooner rather than later.
