TOMMY WRIGHT was frustrated St Johnstone couldn’t capitalise on the positive aspects of their performance as they went down 3-0 against Rangers.

The Saints had a number of promising spells in a competitive affair at McDiarmid Park but were left with nothing to show for their efforts as they slipped to another Premiership defeat.

A Carlos Pena header before the half hour mark gave Rangers a half-time lead and when the Mexican doubled his tally for the night the points were outwith St Johnstone’s reach.

Defender Steven Anderson saw red after picking up two bookings for his part in a penalty box skirmish and a foul on Alfredo Morelos.

Midfielder Graham Dorrans then completed the win for Pedro Caixinha’s side as he slotted home in the final minutes.

And Perth boss Wright admits it was a frustrating night at the office as the Saints were left empty handed on home soil.

He said: “I was pleased how we played, not pleased with the result.

“I thought for 70 minutes we were slightly the better side.

“They put one cross in the box in the first half, we should probably deal with it better and don’t.

“We had numerous opportunities to get in behind them but the final ball wasn’t good enough or the finish wasn’t good enough.

“I think, up until the sending off, we were dominant, although they were still getting us on the counter. We were the dominant team in the second half.

“I have got to be pleased from that point of view but I am disappointed we didn’t make more of the good play that we had, up until a certain area in the pitch.

“We didn’t put a final pass or a final touch on a lot of our good play.

“Ultimately we have conceded two goals off crosses again, which players have got to do better.”
