JASON HOLT is determined to help Rangers make amends for their Hampden heartaches last season as Pedro Caixinha’s side set their sights on the Betfred Cup final.

The Light Blues suffered double disappointments at the National Stadium as Celtic recorded two Old Firm semi-final wins on their way to a domestic clean sweep.

Now Rangers have an opportunity to move within 90 minutes of a winner’s medal when they face in-form Motherwell on Sunday.

Caixinha’s side were 2-1 winners over the Steelmen on the opening day of the Premiership campaign.

And Holt knows the Gers must make the most of their cup chance this weekend as they bid for a hat-trick of wins for the first time this term.

He said: “It would be great. That has been the target in the last couple of seasons to get a bit of silverware.

“We know it is going to be a really difficult game and it is a great occasion for players, staff and fans.

“That [we haven’t won a cup] is as frustration of mine and all the players. We want to try and put that right and this is an opportunity.

“It is important for any club to get that momentum and it will certainly stand you in good stead if you can get that. It gets a really good vibe about the place so hopefully we can do that.

“I think [we are a better team now than we were in the first game against Motherwell]. Like I said, we have been working extremely hard and hopefully we can show that we have come on as a team in the game against Motherwell.”

Rangers will head to Hampden on the back of successive Premiership wins over Hamilton Accies and St Johnstone.

Holt came into the starting line-up on Friday night as he replaced the suspended Ryan Jack at McDiarmid Park.

And he is eager to play his part against Motherwell after turning in a solid showing against the Saints.

Holt said: “I hope [I can stay in the team]. All along when I have not been playing I have been biding my time and all I could do was work hard in training and try and impress the manager and be ready when I get my chance.

“I came on in a couple of games in the last few weeks and got my start [on Friday]. I was delighted. Hopefully it gives the manager a headache selection wise.

“I will just continue to work hard and see where I get. Jacko and Dozza (Graham Dorrans) were doing extremely well so I just had to bide my time.

“That is the only thing for it, head down and work hard and I done that. I need to be ready when called upon and I was.”
