THE win over Aberdeen on Wednesday night was another really impressive result for Rangers and Graeme Murty’s record in the ‘big’ games against the top teams in the Premiership certainly makes for encouraging reading.

But he has to get results in every match, not just against the likes of Celtic and Aberdeen, if Rangers are to make real progress and he is to remain as manager beyond the end of the season.

It is no use turning in a good performance against Aberdeen and then dropping points away to Ross County. That is what Rangers must avoid in what is going to be a really hard game for them on Sunday.

As a player, it is easy to get yourself up for the games against your rivals in the league and it is great when you get the praise and the plaudits after a win. But when you are at Rangers every game is a big game and every game is a must-win.

Look at some of the results we have had at Ibrox this season and the points that have been dropped to the likes of Hamilton and St Johnstone. And think what a difference those games could have made to the look of the Premiership table.

Being able to beat Aberdeen three times, win at Hearts and Hibernian and draw at Parkhead is one thing, but too often this season Rangers haven’t performed in the matches that they really should be winning.

Graeme has to get that into the players’ heads now. He will be delighted with the performance at Ibrox but the next one is always the most important one and it will be a real battle in Dingwall against a County side that are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table.

It is great that Graeme has a decent record in those higher profile fixtures but he needs to get some consistency out of the team in the second half of the season or those results will quickly be forgotten come the end of the campaign.

I am sure he will be trying to get it into the players that it is OK playing well at Parkhead or against Aberdeen but that we need to be beating the teams lower down the league week after week after week.

You get the same three points for beating Aberdeen as you do Ross County. So we can’t afford to go up to the Highlands and falter like we have done on so many occasions this season.

If you are going to challenge for titles and win trophies, you need to have that consistency of performance and result and that is something that Rangers haven’t shown this season.

Rangers have the ability to beat the likes of Ross County, of course they have. They have better players and they should be winning the game tomorrow.

But that will only happen if the mentality is right and the work ethic is right and you go out there and show why you are a better player and why you are a Rangers player.

The Aberdeen game looked after itself. Everyone knows you are up for it and what is expected.

Sunday is the one that you look at all these players and we will see if they have learned their lessons from what has happened so far this season. We have got better players in the side so let’s see if we can get better results.

Graeme will be saying exactly the same thing to his squad that I am saying here and it is up to those players to take the message on board and deliver for the manager.

It is about attitude in games like this and Graeme will want to get that into their heads. Some will take it in and some won’t, and those that don’t might find their chances limited now because of the options that he has in the squad.

If you don’t perform in games like this, you won’t be in the team for visits of Hibernian and Hearts or the next Old Firm game. You have to do tomorrow what you did on Wednesday night.

Players will take the acclaim when it is going but then all of a sudden they get lackadaisical again and you can’t have that at Rangers.

If you win silverware or you achieve your goals in a season, you have done so because you have worked hard at it and you have taken nothing for granted.

If you want to be up there challenging Celtic and competing for cups, the attitude has to be spot on at Ibrox.

Come the full-time whistle tomorrow, we will see if that message is starting to get through to the Rangers players.
