WALTER Smith is being considered by the Scottish FA for the Scotland manager's job.
The 69-year-old is widely reported to be a candidate for the position vacated by Gordon Strachan in October 2017.
He previously led the national team between 2004 and 2007, winning seven and drawing five of 16 games in charge as the Scots rose 70 places in the FIFA rankings.
Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill turned down the job last month after holding talks with the SFA, before the governing body's chief executive Stewart Regan resigned on 1 February.
Smith has been out of management since leaving his second spell in charge of Rangers in 2011, but remains one of Scotland's most decorated managers having led the Ibrox club to 10 league titles, five Scottish Cups and six League Cups as well as to the final of the UEFA Cup.
