Declan John has his Rangers form to thank for his return to the Wales side, according to new international boss Ryan Giggs.

John played the full game as Wales hammered China on Thursday and then 59 minutes of Monday’s 1-0 defeat from Uruguay in the final of the China Cup.

Discussing the inclusion of John and Liverpool youngster Harry Wilson, who joined Hull City on loan in January, Giggs said: “They are both playing and you can see that. They had power in their legs, the fitness, and that makes a big difference.

“Harry and Declan are seeing the benefits of playing week-in, week-out because you can’t beat playing competitive first-team games. You get in a rhythm.”
