THE appointment of Steven Gerrard has stirred up the Rangers fans and they can’t wait to see players coming in and the games starting again. I am excited as well.

He and Gary McAllister will get going next week and there is a real feeling about this being the start of a new era at Ibrox.

It could be a great season and I am really looking forward to seeing how it goes over the next few weeks and months with Steven and Gary there.

Rangers have sold over 40,000 season tickets already, so that tells you there is a buzz amongst the fanbase.

Anyone that was swithering whether to renew their season ticket or just pick and choose their games, they signed up straight away when Gerrard was announced.

Yes, we know that Steven is unproven as a manager but, as Dave King said when he was unveiled, he ticks so many boxes for Rangers. It is exciting having him at Ibrox.

He has come from a massive club in Liverpool and there are similarities with what he will find at Rangers in terms of a city with two sets of passionate fans, a real rivalry and an expectation to win.

At Liverpool, you have to win because they are born winners. That is what is needed now at Rangers.

Steven comes in as somebody that has won the European Cup, silverware in England and captained his country and appeared at major finals.

In Gary, we have someone of the same ilk. So we have two experienced, high calibre individuals coming in.

They have come from a huge club and they are joining a huge club so nothing will faze them and the challenge won’t frighten them.

Hopefully they can bring that mentality to Ibrox and I’m sure the players that they bring to the club over the summer will have that mindset as well.

There have been lows in recent years but these things go in cycles and hopefully it will be Rangers that are on the right side of that again soon.
