FORGOTTEN Rangers midfielder Matt Crooks has finally called full-time on his Ibrox nightmare after sealing a move to Northampton Town.

The 23-year-old played just three games for the Gers after joining from Accrington Stanley last year under Mark Warburton.

Unable to break into Warburton’s plans in the first half of the campaign, Crooks was farmed out to Scunthorpe on loan for valuable game time.

However, he has failed to convince Pedro Caixinha that he has a part to play in the Portuguese’s plans and will instead ply his trade in English League One.

He said: “[Cobblers manager Justin Edinburgh] and I had a good couple of chats and he talked about how he wanted the club to progress, how he wanted to play - it does excite me.

“It’s a club on the rise. I had a bit of a sticky year last year and want to be back on the rise, so I hope we can do it together.”

Crooks moved for an undisclosed fee, with Northampton boss Edinburgh adding: “We are thrilled to have secured Matt.

“He is a very talented player with a big future ahead of him. He has played at this level and was one of the best players coming out of League 2 when he went to Rangers. We feel he has the potential to get even better and believe he is a top signing for us.”

Back in Glasgow, Danny Wilson has spoken of his delight at getting back to playing games after being out for almost three months due to a knee ligament injury.

The 25-year-old centre-half got 45 minutes under his belt in Rangers’ 1-0 close-door defeat to St Johnstone yesterday.

He told Rangers TV: “I have obviously missed a few games so I am just playing catch-up now in terms of fitness.

“There was always going to be new defenders coming in, I spoke to the manager at the end of last season and he said he was going to bring some players in.

“The new boys have come in and we expect there to be even more competition for places this season and I am no different.

“I just need to concentrate on getting myself fit and giving myself the best opportunity to get back in the team.”
