GRAHAM DORRANS admits Rangers’ mistakes at both ends of the park cost them dear as they suffered an Old Firm defeat at Ibrox.

Second half goals from Tom Rogic and Leigh Griffiths clinched a comfortable win for Celtic to help them move eight points clear of the Gers in the Premiership standings.

Pedro Caixinha’s side competed well in spells but were denied a first half penalty after a Jozo Simunovic challenge on Alfredo Morelos.

The striker saw a header saved by Craig Gordon after the break and Dorrans was frustrated the Light Blues couldn’t capitalise on the chances they were able to carve out.

He said: “Obviously we’re disappointed. In the first half I thought we matched them. They had a few early chances but we stayed in the game.

“We came out second half and they scored within five minutes which knocks us a little bit but we got back in the game and pushed on, we had a good chance from Alfredo.

“They made a good save, with a bit of luck that goes in and the game changes. But it didn’t and they went on to get the second goal which kills us a little bit. Overall we’re bitterly disappointed.

“Goals change games. If we had gone on and got the first goal or the equaliser we would have grown into it a little bit more. With a little bit of luck it might have done.

“We are disappointed. We just need to stick together and move on.”

It was to prove another frustrating afternoon at the office for Rangers as they lost further ground in the Premiership and suffered a second league defeat this term.

The performance of youngster Ross McCrorie was one of the few positives that Caixinha could take as the 19-year-old stepped in for Bruno Alves at the heart of the Gers defence.

Dorrans said: “Ross was great. He came on the other night at Partick Thistle and I thought he did really well and again, he was probably our best player.

“Credit to Ross he has a good future ahead of him and hopefully he can continue playing like that.”

Rangers return to top flight action with a trip to Hamilton on Friday night as they once again attempt to start a sustained run of form in the Premiership.

And Dorrans is determined to get back to winning ways to ensure Caixinha’s side are competing at the sharp end of the standings sooner rather than later.

He said: “Listen it’s going to be tough. We have got a number of new players and we are just working each other out at the minute.

“But there is good ability, it’s a strong squad we’ve got. On Friday night hopefully we can go out and get a win and build a bit of momentum again.”
