RINO GATTUSO hopes his return to Rangers will move a step closer today when talks resume over a potential summer deal.

The former Ibrox midfielder is a free agent after leaving Italian giants AC Milan at the end of the season and is keen to make an emotional return to Glasgow and end his glittering career where it all started.

The 34-year-old's agent, Andrea D'Amico held talks with prospective Gers owner Charles Green yesterday.

Gattuso is willing to take a massive pay cut to clinch his dream move to Rangers and join Ally McCoist's squad for next season and the midfielder hopes there will be positive news sooner rather than later.

He said: "(Today) the talks will continue to try to find a deal.

"For me, what I hear is good. But (today) we will know more.

"My feeling is that I want to come back to Glasgow. My wife also wants to come back. I would like to play for Rangers again. But we will see."

Despite Gattuso's eagerness to seal a deal, there are still significant hurdles in the Italian's way.

Rangers are unable to sign players while they are in administration, with doubt still remaining over whether the SFA will uphold a transfer embargo placed on the club due to rule breaches.

The capture of Gattuso would be a major coup for Green as he bids to win over the Ibrox crowd and the Englishman is keen to do business as he prepares to sit down with D'Amico once again today.

He said: "Fans should be aware of just how big the club is when one of the greatest players publicly states he wants to finish his career at Rangers at a time when we can't sign anyone.

"He has confirmed he wants to play for Rangers and that is something we could do if we were able to sign someone."

D'Amico said: "Not being in Europe next season would not be an issue for Rino. I will meet with Rangers again (today) for further talks."
