GREGOR TOWNSEND reckons 19-stone winger Taqele Naiyaravoro can make his presence felt at Glasgow next season.

The 6ft 5in Fijian is the latest star to put pen to paper for next season at Warriors in the form of a three-year contract.

Joining from New South Wales Waratahs, Naiyaravoro will arrive on the back of 15 appearances for the Super Rugby champions this term.

Glasgow head coach Townsend said: "Taqele is a very exciting signing for our club. He has made a real impact since joining the Waratahs last season and has the potential to become one of the best wingers in the Guinness PRO12.

"His sheer size and strength will give us another option in our back-line and I'm sure he will be an excellent addition to our squad.

"He has a great attitude and desire to work and improve, and we'd like to thank Scottish Rugby for their support in securing a player of Taqele's quality.

"We look forward to him joining us at the end of the season and we know he'll be with us regardless of any international commitments."

Naiyaravoro was named in the Waratahs starting line-up for the first time in the opening game of this season's campaign against Western Force and then again the following week when he scored two tries in a 38-28 win over Melbourne Rebels.

He has started seven games this season and was selected in the Super Rugby team of the week in Round Six.

Earlier this month he scored an incredible solo effort against Western Force, leading to him being compared to All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu.

Naiyaravoro said: "Glasgow have been talking to me for a while and opened the door for me, so I'm happy to have signed a long-term contract with the club. I'm looking forward to moving to Glasgow with my family to continue my development.

"It's been great playing with the likes of Adam Ashley-Cooper and Kurtley Beale at the Waratahs this season. They've been really helpful and I've learned a lot from them.

"It will be a new challenge for me to play in the Guinness PRO12 and compete against the best sides in Europe in the Champions Cup."

Meanwhile, Stuart Hogg is relishing the prospect of another Friday night thriller at Scotstoun in the play-off semi-finals.

Glasgow booked the home slot at the weekend with a bonus point victory over Ulster, who will once again provide the opposition for Townsend's men.

Hogg said: "It is a brilliant result and the boys are absolutely buzzing. We made it hard for ourselves with a bit of a dodgy first half, but the last 20 minutes are what we are all about.

"The fans were epic as they got right behind us and massive thanks goes to them. Hopefully this week is the exact same."
