AL KELLOCK was struggling to comprehend his playing career was over - until he was hit by relief at never having to go through a gruelling pre-season training camp again.

The retiring Glasgow Warriors captain has had a farewell to remember this campaign as his team finally won their first major trophy by being crowned Guinness PRO12 champions.

It's been an emotional roller-coaster for Kellock, who has been the heartbeat of the Scotstoun club from a playing perspective for a decade.

And now he is ready to embark on a new role as an ambassador for Warriors, the 33-year-old told SportTimes that life after rugby is something he is just getting used to.

"Realising my playing career was over probably didn't sink in until Monday when I saw the schedule for the boys going back in," said Kellock.

"I looked at the fitness testing and the strength testing and I had a bit of a wry smile on my face!

"In saying that, I'm going to miss that and I'm going to miss playing. But I'm excited about what's coming next.

"At the moment I'm just enjoying the fact I can look back and relax and not looking at a pre-season coming round the corner."

Kellock's final fling took place back on May 30 during a defining day in Belfast.

Facing Irish cracks Munster in the PRO12 final, Glasgow completely blew their opponents away in a barnstorming 31-13 win.

The Warriors captain came off the bench in the showpiece to get his men over the line, and it is an occasion that is still fresh in his mind.

He said: "I couldn't have asked for a better finish, if I'm being honest. The final itself we probably played our best rugby of the season and following the game it's just been incredibly good fun.

"Everyone has now gone their own way for the summer, but there is still that overwhelming feeling that we've done it. You look back at the photos and the memories with pride."

Over a thousand Glasgow fans crossed the Irish Sea to be able to watch their team create history.

However, for the thousands who weren't there last month, they will get their chance to celebrate in style tomorrow.

Gregor Townsend's title winners will parade the PRO12 trophy in George Square at 6pm ahead of a Civic Reception at the City Chambers.

The team are due to arrive on an open-top bus where they will be greeted by their loyal supporters, and it's an occasion Kellock is relishing the prospect of.

"I'm really looking forward to tomorrow," he said. "There's an opportunity for those who weren't able to travel to Belfast to see the trophy and celebrate with us.

"I've always said this club's main strength is that it's not just about the players or the coaches, it's about everybody.

"That's grown and grown over the years and it would be great to see big numbers in George Square tomorrow."

Kellock added: "I always said I'd never say success until we've won something, I always used the phrase 'relative success'. But I can say it now.

"With that, you can see our numbers increasing and they have changed massively over the last decade.

"Being able to go out and visit different places with a trophy under our arm is a great feeling and that starts tomorrow."
