GLASGOW new boy Mike Blair reckons Warriors pair Jonny Gray and Stuart Hogg will be the next generation of Scottish superstars.

Scrum-half Blair, capped 85 times by Scotland, has watched the duo closely since his move to the Guinness PRO12 champions, and said: "Jonny has consistently played well for Glasgow for the last two-and-a-half years and has only just turned 21. If he can continue like that he has a lot of respect around this league and is starting to push into Europe as well.

"Hogg, everyone knows already, he has the X-factor that can turn a game. He has already been recognised by the British and Irish Lions, has played consistently very, very well for Scotland, and is only 23. Those names can stand up on the world stage."

It is all part of the feelgood at Glasgow which has seen more than 3,000 season tickets sold with the season still two months away, and one of the things that attracted Blair to the club despite his background being firmly on the other side of the country.

"It is a great time to be here," he said "It is a difficult time as well because in the league there is only one way to go and that is down, it is a massive challenge to hold on to that title. Gregor [Townsend, the head coach] talks about winning the PRO12 last season being the start of the journey and there is a lot more to come from this group.

"It is a decent challenge ahead of us, there are 22 with Scotland and three or four with other countries over the World Cup, so the guys who are here and training at the moment have a massive responsibility to put Glasgow in a position where, when the guys do come back, we are comfortable in the league, doing well enough.

"In terms of the first year, my main emphasis is the playing side of things, but I hope to have a fair bit of input in terms of feedback and ideas. I worked with Henry Pyrgos last year in a mentoring type role and hope to continue that with him and try to help the other scrum-halves, Grayson Hart and Ali Price.

"The first year is pretty much on that and will hopefully gain me a bit of coaching experience, working with the age group sides and academies and get a bit of learning from that side of things, so that in the second year I can hope to focus more on that."
