GRAYSON HART has taken three years to find his way to Glasgow.

But it is a long road that the scrum half admits has been worth the wait as he finally finds himself one of Gregor Townsend’s Warriors.

The 27-year-old could have originally penned a deal at Scotstoun back in 2012 when he played for the NSW Waratahs before eventually going on to sign for Edinburgh.

His move through to the east did not stop Townsend’s pursuit of him, however, with him agreeing to a two-year deal with the GUINNESS PRO12 champions back in March ahead of the new campaign.

Now he has finally arrived in Glasgow for his first term in black and blue, the New Zealand-born Hart is delighted to finally get his Warriors career up and running.

He said: “I spoke a lot to Gregor a few years ago about coming and at the time it didn’t quite feel like the right time as I had a few things I still wanted to do back home.

“From those discussions I kept an eye on Glasgow and now I’m here it just feels right.”

After just arriving at Glasgow Hart is already aware of the standard in which he must set himself.

Following on from their first title, Warriors have heaped the pressure on themselves to not let their high standards slip as they seek another silverware-laden season.

Glasgow’s rise to prominence is something that Hart has watched on with interest over the past two years from the other end of the M8.

And the Kiwi knows what is expected of him now to make sure that success was no one-hit wonder.

He said: “I was hugely excited and happy for the guys when I watched the final. I felt like the club really deserved to win that championship.

“They’ve been building over the years and really earned it. It’s a very exciting time to be joining the club.

“I rocked up on the first day for pre-season training and wouldn’t usually have such a spring in my step but joining a winning club was really exciting for me.

“I’ve kept a close eye on Glasgow over the years and what stood out for me is the way they play the game.

“They encourage their players to express themselves and it’s an exciting style of rugby to watch.

“Coming from the Southern Hemisphere, it’s similar to my mindset. I’ll need to work really hard on my fitness to keep the tempo high for the team.”

On the back of a pre-season training block last month, Townsend’s players are currently on a three-week break to help them recover and get ready for the next stage in their pre-season planning.

It is a rest that Hart is grateful for, but the former New Zealand under-20 cap is keen to itching to get back into the swing of things.

He told GlasgowWarriors.org: “We’ve done a lot of skill work and conditioning games so everything is really worthwhile.

“It’s good way to do it [have some downtime] as you don’t lose any fitness over the short break.

“We’ll enjoy it as it’s a rest for the body but it’ll be in the back of our minds to keep fit. When we come back the practice games won’t be far away.”
