THE Scottish Rugby Union has recorded a record turnover of £44.2million.
The governing body has boosted income streams by more than £500,000, also allowing it to slash its average debt levels to less than £10m for the first time in a decade.
The improved financial outlook follows a breakthrough season for Scotland's professional club sides, with Glasgow Warriors claiming the Guinness PRO12 title and Edinburgh finishing as runners-up in the European Challenge Cup.
Chief executive Mark Dodson said: "This success is just the start of our journey. Importantly, we now have proof that players and coaches can stay in Scotland and win silverware.
"We know we still have much to do and achieve, but are looking forward positively to more competitive and entertaining rugby.
"While there have been some great moments on the pitch there has also been a lot of hard work in the background to make the game sustainable from the grassroots up."
