GLASGOW Warriors and Scotland tight-head prop Zander Fagerson will be in action later today at Scotstoun as Warriors take on group leaders Munster in the European Champions Cup. Here is Zander’s take on the opposition and the week …

No-one is underestimating the task we face later today against Munster, but to be honest, how can you not want to play in matches like this? All week, the player have been looking ahead and talking about it, even if you have to put in the ‘if selected’ prefix, or at least until the team was announced. But now, it can’t come quick enough.

The European Cup week is brilliant; from getting to stay in the Village Hotel all week, to the buzz around the place amongst the fans, and knowing what another sell-out Scotstoun will sound like. Our supporters – who I cannot praise enough because they’ve carried us over the line a few time this term - expect us to do well and we don’t want to let anyone down.

We didn’t do ourselves justice in our first match against Munster, but that was a very difficult set of circumstances.

After the shocking death of Anthony Foley, Munster were just inspired. It was a weird atmosphere that weekend, and in the game itself, with the emotion on the field and amongst the crowd. It lifted them; it was like playing against 16 men and we had no real answer to it.

This time around, we need to be showing that set of circumstances conspired against us. Munster have a great, well-drilled pack, with tremendous pace across the backs, but, so do the Warriors.

In the last couple of months we have put together some excellent performances, for instance, against Leicester Tigers but in particular, the back-to-back wins against Racing 92. They are probably the richest club in European rugby, but we really got it right both times and put a real marker down for everyone else to see.

We’ve been playing to a good level, and the win over Edinburgh on Boxing Day was also well received by everyone around the club.

What happens, with two group games to play, is in our own hands.

Personally, I’m in a good place, as are the Warriors, but for me the Autumn Tests really were a step up in class for me. It was a bit of a whirlwind experience, getting to be a starter three times and I really loved the experience.

I feel I’ve moved up another level in those games, because taking on Australia, Argentina and Georgia, who need to learn quickly. Test match rugby is the highest level you can play at, but, the European Cup isn’t too far behind in terms of the players you face and the standard of opposition - and Munster is right up there with the very best.

There is always lots of chat and banter after the weekend, and once the guys get back on the training pitch and this week was no different. But I don’t think I’ve heard as much laughter from the boys as we did when they were watching the clip on social media of our old Glasgow colleague, Jon Welsh.

Did you see it? I don’t think any of us had seen anything like it. He was playing for Newcastle Falcons against Bath and made a break through the defensive line around the halfway line.

It was just so funny. The big man just decided ‘enough’ after running five metres and tried to chip the ball over the Bath full-back before smashing him. All the guys were talking about it. We’ve now nicknamed him ‘Barry’ Jon Welsh.

We all try these things in training but seeing him attempting it in the game was just hilarious.

Put it this way, if I find myself in a similar situation, I’m holding on to the ball. I think I’d be dropped – or even sacked - if I tried to pull that move …
