GREGOR TOWNSEND will make his debut as Head Coach of Scotland against Italy in Singapore this June, Scottish Rugby has announced.

The national team's summer tour schedule was confirmed on Friday, with a historic clash with Italy kicking things off before games against Australia and Fiji on consecutive Saturdays.

The game against the Italians on June 10 will be the first tier one international to be played in Singapore, before Townsend's squad travel to Sydney on 17 June and Suva on 24 June.

The Scots ran out 29-0 winners over the Azzurri on the final day of the 2017 Six Nations and will return to Australia for the first time since a 9-6 victory in 2012.

However, the Wallabies have edged out Scotland by a single point in their last two meetings at the 2015 Rugby World Cup and in last year's autumn test at Murrayfield.

The last trip to Fiji came five years ago, when Tim Visser scored a try on his debut in a 35-27 win in Lautoka.

“We’re pleased to confirm our 2017 summer tour will take us to Singapore, Sydney and Suva, where our players will relish the challenges presented by tough opposition, travel and climate in a concentrated and intense period of rugby," said Townsend, who will leave Glasgow Warriors at the end of the season.

“Touring builds strong bonds in a group and, in addition our preparation camp, this time together will be invaluable for our new coaching team as we strive to further improve the squad.”
