WARRIORS star Josh Strauss is keen to accentuate the positives after Glasgow's opening-day triumph over Leinster in the Gunness PRO12.

The Scotstoun club banished the demons of last season's PRO12 final in Dublin when the Irish side comfortably beat Gregor Townsend's men.

A lot of hard work and preparation had gone in this summer to ensure a repeat of that result was not going to take place on Saturday. In the end Warriors recorded a dramatic 22-20 win in front of 5,000 home fans.

Despite the landmark victory, Strauss admitted he was disappointed that Leinster were allowed back into the match after the break when the home side had appeared to have a firm grip on proceedings up to the interval.

The big South African giant scored one of three Warriors tries as they raced into a 19-6 lead. But they trailed by a point until Stuart Hogg's penalty with the last kick of the game sealed the win.

Yet Strauss insists any worries over the second-half slump must pale into insignificance when compared to the success of beating the champions.

He said: "Obviously there was a bit of relief at the end, but it was still a great feeling.

"We played really well in the first half, but we know we can't afford to let it slip like we that.

"I think our discipline let us down in the second half, as did some of our defending. A few mistakes crept in.

"But I think it showed great character from the whole team to fight back and keep the ball until we could get the penalty that gave us the win.

"We really gelled well in the first half. We would have loved to have put in a full 80-minute performance like that.

"But although I'm not happy that we didn't keep it going in the second half there were a still lot of good things we can take from the game.

"There are a few things we can work on, but we're happy to get the victory."

Speaking of his joy at getting a personal five points on the scoreboard, Strauss told Glasgow Warriors TV: "It was great to get a try.

"We enjoyed playing quick rugby and it was a lovely day at Scotstoun - you don't get many of them in Glasgow!"

"We worked hard and it was a good first outing.

"Before the game with Leinster we had agreed we wanted to start on the front foot and establish a lead if we could.

"They are a great team and it's always tough to play against them.

"We're ecstatic with the win against such a good team. It shows how hard we've all worked in the off-season."
