ALEX DUNBAR has revealed that American flying machine Carlin Isles has already impressed the Glasgow squad with his searing pace.

The USA Sevens star arrived at Scotstoun on Monday, where he spoke exclusively with SportTimes, and enjoyed his first training session with his new team-mates yesterday at Toryglen.

It was there, as Warriors star Dunbar explained, that the man who has clocked an Olympic semi-final qualifying time of 10.13 seconds for the 100 metres, was given his first speed test by his new team-mates, in a tongue-in-cheek handicapped sprint against front row powerhouse Jon Welsh.

The Warriors centre said: "Carlin looked really sharp and very, very quick. So we decided to test just how quick he was by putting him up against Jon Welsh in a race.

"To be honest it was over 50 metres and Welshy had a 40 metre start and to be fair to Carlin, he almost won. But unfortunately Welshy nicked it and we never heard the end of it and probably won't for the rest of the season.

"I have to say I don't think I have seen anyone as fast as Carlin before. I am sure his pace will be a real bonus for us once he has learned all the calls and rudiments of the 15-man game.

"But he settled in really well and obviously it is a big plus that he has Folau Niua, his fellow American already in the squad. I am sure he has a big career ahead of him with Glasgow because he is a very exciting young talent."

Dunbar has returned to Scotstoun after an immensely promising RBS Six Nations campaign for Scotland, where his centre partnership with Matt Scott was one of the few high points of a bitterly disappointing championship.

But the softly-spoken centre says he is hungry to put the bite on the Scarlets, on Saturday night, at Scotstoun.

Dunbar said: "After beating Italy we were really disappointed with how the France and Wales games went. We know we must do better and that we must learn lessons from these two games but at the same time there were positives.

"I really enjoyed playing with Matt Scott and felt like we have developed the basis of a good understanding as a combination at centre. But it was great to be involved over the whole tournament and I feel like I have come back a better player for the experience.

"Now it is all about making sure I do everything I can to be included in the matchday-23 for the Scarlets game because the competition at Glasgow is so tough that no one is guaranteed a place in the side."
