GREGOR Townsend admitted he was salivating at the prospect of Glasgow's double French challenge in their quest for glory in the new European Champions Cup.

Warriors were listed in the top group of seeds for the first time - thanks to reaching the Pro12 finals.

And though they sidestepped all three Irish giants in yesterday's draw in Switzerland, they were pitted against cross-Channel aces Toulouse and Montpellier, along with star-studded Bath.

Townsend said: "To be a leading seed was fantastic - but when you look at the quality of the other teams, it doesn't matter where you are rated, you're always going to be in a tough pool.

"That was underlined when Toulouse were drawn out as the last side in our group - they've been champions four times!

"It's fantastic to be playing two French teams. I used to play for Montpellier, they have a great stadium and Glasgow have played there recently too.

"They are a very good side, one of the best attacking teams in France and were very unlucky not to make the Top 14 final this year.

"Toulouse have been one of the top teams in Europe over the last 20 years and playing in their stadium will be a great expericence. One of the best results in the club's history was winning there a few years ago.

"Bath are also former winners of the cup and they are emerging again as one of the best clubs in England.

"They have a really solid defence and some very exciting backs and a young fly-half who is developing very well in George Ford.

"I can't wait for my players to go head to head against some top-notch sides."

Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors will play London Scottish in a pre-season friendly at Richmond Athletic Ground in London on Saturday, August 30, with a 3pm kick-off. The clubs will play each other in a return fixture in Scotland next summer.
