DOUGIE HALL is desperate to make things count.

Quite literally, in fact.

The Glasgow Warriors hooker is very much in the twilight of his rugby-playing career. Having announced his retirement earlier on this year, the 34-year-old knows his time in the game he loves is almost at an end.

With a life as a financial advisor waiting for him beyond the summer, Hall is desperate for things to add up for Warriors before he departs.

Currently top of the GUINNESS PRO12, Glasgow are on course for a maiden Championship.

Only four games remain in the regular season, starting off with tomorrow night's visit of Cardiff Blues to Scotstoun.

And speaking to SportTimes, Hall knows he must savour every moment from here on in.

He said: "I did accounts at uni so having done three years of it the bits I enjoyed were to do with finance. I thought I'd look at that.

"It is financial advise through Dougie McCrea. He is one of our sponsors that I bumped into a few years ago and I asked him if there was any chance I could come and try something a bit different.

"At that stage I wasn't thinking that far ahead about a job as I wasn't sure if an office and a suit and tie was for me. Turns out it is!"

He added: "It gets to the point where you think 'This may be my last game of professional rugby'.

"It might be my last game of rugby full stop. I might dip my toe into amateur but just now I don't feel like I will.

"I'm trying to enjoy it as much as possible while also staying focused."

Hall admits that it is the little things around him that he is beginning to notice more as his time as a Warrior comes to an end.

He said: "At 34, it's not a shock you are coming up to retirement.

"As it draws closer, you start to think about the things that you really enjoy about the game. You think of the last huddle, the last chance to walk out together. It's those moments that I will miss incredibly.

"Nothing will replicate it for me, but I've been lucky to do it for so many years. I'll just have to hold to the memories."

Knowing that this is his last chance to clinch the championship with Glasgow makes the man from Dingwall all the more keen to live the high life this season.

Head coach Gregor Townsend has confirmed the hooker along with fellow retiring veteran Al Kellock will both start against Cardiff tomorrow night.

And Hall is eager to make his influence felt while he still can.

"Selfishly it would be wonderful to win it this year as I'd be involved," he said.

"It's one of those things, you've just got to do your best. You have some great teams in the league and it really does come down to how you perform on the day.

"We are trying to do our bit and take care of the league."

Hall's career, which spans 14 years in the professional game, will finally be brought to a conclusion in the next few weeks following two stints at Glasgow, one at Edinburgh and over 40 appearances for Scotland.

But is he confident his last waltz will also be a victory dance?

He joked: "I'm going to score the try on the wing, that'll be it. A wee chip and chase!

"It would be wonderful. I don't think there's any point denying that is the goal [to win the PRO12]. I think if you had asked me at the start I'd have told you the same thing.

"We've got the league to concentrate on and I believe we can and will win it."

From now until the end of the season, be sure Hall will put his money where his mouth is.
