DTH van der Merwe admits his Scotstoun return after an eight-month wait was a bittersweet one.

The Glasgow Warriors winger scored a try on his comeback from injury in his side's 24-23 friendly defeat to Premiership cracks Harlequins, with two late tries doing the damage against the Guinness Pro12 outfit.

Despite taking heart from running the Londoners so close ahead of this season's campaign, though, Van der Merwe reveals he is still looking for more.

He said: "It's a tough one to swallow. From the beginning we had the wind on our side and we didn't really capitalise on that in the first half.

"We moved the ball in the second half and got up by about 10 points. To then lose by one point is quite frustrating.

"I haven't played at Scotstoun since December last year so it's good to be back in front of the Glasgow faithful. I got a half under my belt, hopefully I can get more next week [against London Scottish].

"Harlequins are a top quality side, they are always in the top four in the Premiership. It feels good to run them close."

It's a season of new opportunities for the Canadian international who is looking to feature more for Gregor Townsend's side, especially alongside fellow countryman and new signing Connor Braid.

He told Warriors TV: "Connor has great skills from being on the sevens circuit. He has great passing, he's a good all-round player and he'll bring a lot to the team.

"It's all about playing in more games than I did last season. Eleven games is not enough for me, I want to be playing 18 or 20."
