PETER HORNE was delighted last night to find out he is Glasgow Warriors player of the month.

But the Scotland internationalist says it will count for nothing if the Scotstoun side don't savour victory tomorrow when Ulster come calling.

SportTimes can exclusively reveal Horne picked up the gong, sponsored by McCrea Financial Services, at yesterday's event at House of Fraser in the city centre.

It recognised the effort put in by the 25-year-old over the course of April, a month in which Glasgow claimed bonus-point victories over Cardiff Blues and Connacht.

Those results helped secure Warriors a play-off place, but only a win this weekend in their final game of the regular season will guarantee home advantage for the all-important semi-final tie.

"It's nice to win an award, especially at this time of the season," Horne told SportTimes.

"I feel like I'm improving and it's good to know people are noticing that.

"In saying that, it counts for nothing if we don't go out there and do the business against Ulster.

"We are desperate to secure that home semi-final spot. It will be difficult for us but we know as a group we are capable of producing a massive performance."

The Warriors centre is well aware that performance must be far improved from the one that saw them slip up last weekend.

Last Friday Glasgow headed for Wales targeting the win that would have secured a Scotstoun semi-final. Instead all they returned with was regret and a 21-10 defeat.

It was a bruising experience for a team that pride themselves on their ability to grind out results.

"Unfortunately in that game against the Ospreys we just didn't hit the mark like we have done in the past couple of months," admitted Horne.

"Henry Pyrgos spoke to us after the game and said we need to make sure that the defeat is the best thing that could happen to us at this stage in the season.

"It gives us a reality check and makes us know we cannot perform like that again coming into the next three weeks.

"It's a massive game against Ulster but to be honest there is no better team to set the record straight against."

And there will be plenty there to witness it.

Scotstoun is set for its biggest crowd of the season with an increased capacity of 10,000 having already sold out.

It is an unbelievable achievement for a club who were playing in front of a fraction of that not so many years ago at Firhill.

Horne acknowledges the colossal support that he and his team-mates have. He is keen not to disappoint them.

He said: "This weekend can be proof of how valuable it is to be playing at home.

"It showed in our semi-final against Munster last year how valuable it can be to be at Scotstoun. The crowd have been fantastic again this year.

"Every season they get better and bigger. Even from game to game it seems to get louder.

"When I first came to the club we were at Firhill and sometimes we'd be lucky to break a 1000 people. Every game now feels like a sell-out.

"It makes a big difference and we're desperate to give each and every one of them something to shout about."
