Glasgow Warriors will face Edinburgh in the first of a series of second-string games on Monday.

The fixtures will allow both sides to feature elite development players, club players and first-team stars who are making their way back from injury.

The first match will take place at Stirling County's Bridgehaugh Park and admission is free for the 5pm kick-off.

The Warriors A team will include players from Ayr, Currie, Glasgow Hawks and Stirling County.

It will be led by Glasgow assistant coach Kenny Murray, with help from Ayr's Calum Forrester.

The pair were last in harness a couple of seasons ago when they led Ayr to a domestic league and cup double - Murray as coach and Forrester as captain.

Murray said last night: "This is an excellent opportunity for a number of our players with different circumstances to get some game time early in the new season.

"We have some players coming back from injury and this is also a great platform for our elite development players.

"We're expecting a very tough test against Edinburgh and this is a fantastic initiative by Scottish Rugby."

Edinburgh's A team will be led by assistant coach Stevie Scott and youth coach Bryan Easson.

Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons said: "These fixtures facilitate the development of our young players by enabling them to play competitively at a level just below the pro teams."

Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend is concentrating on tomorrow's Guinness Pro12 clash in Wales against Newport Gwent Dragons.

The Scotstoun side boast a 100% record in the league after impressive wins over Leinster and Cardiff Blues.

Dragons, on the other hand, lost both their opening fixtures - to Ospreys and Connacht.

They are without several top players for Glasgow's visit.

Former Wales and Lions full-back Lee Byrne is out with a shoulder injury. Tyler Morgan has a damaged knee and his centre partner Jack Dickson is sidelined with a wrist injury.

Fly-half Jason Tovey will miss tomorrow's game because of a calf problem.

All were injured in last weekend's 17-15 defeat by Ospreys.

To add to Dragons misery, lock Andrew Coombs has been banned for three weeks after being found guilty of stamping on Ospreys' Alun Wyn Jones at Rodney Parade.
