AL KELLOCK has hailed Glasgow head coach Gregor Townsend ahead of tomorrow night's historic RaboDirect Pro12 Final with Leinster in Dublin.

The former Scotland and series-winning British Lions stand-off was handed the tough task of succeeding Sean Lineen almost two years back, but has now guided Glasgow to a second-place league finish and a historic maiden bow in the Pro12 final.

Toony's trusted skipper Kellock said: "When Gregor was appointed many people were sceptical about that move, but I knew how much of a success he would be. He has a fantastic rugby brain and he knows the game inside out.

"But, despite all of that, he doesn't overdo it with the detail. Like every squad, we have players who respond to the tactical minutiae and others who maybe glaze over a bit. What Gregor does is to taper his message so that he gets the best out of everyone.

"He has also added a new dimension to our attacking game, but the biggest compliment I can pay him is that every player in the Glasgow squad has an increased knowledge of the game thanks to Gregor."

Kellock added: "We also owe a lot to Matt Taylor and Shade Munro. We are very lucky with the coaching staff we have and that was the case going back to Sean (Lineen) and Gary Mercer.

"It would be great to pay them all back by lifting our first major title tomorrow."
