GREGOR TOWNSEND has praised the character of his Glasgow Warriors team after their barnstorming win away to Newport Gwent Dragons.

The Scotstoun club displayed stunning resolve and drive to defeat the Welsh outfit 33-13, extending their GUINNESS PRO12 winning run this season to three games from three with a bonus-point victory.

Despite being a man down for the second half after Tyrone Holmes was dismissed for stamping just after the break, Warriors never looked in danger on Saturday with Alex Dunbar, Josh Strauss, Tommy Seymour and Tim Swinson going over for the visitors.

And Townsend was delighted with the commitment of his men to carve out another fine win to keep them riding high in the league.

He said: "We played pretty well in the first half, not as well as we can, but we built up a good lead.

"The red card put us under a bit of pressure but the players responded well - to score three tries in that period would have been a great achievement with 15 players but to do it with 14 really shows that the players are doing all they can to win.

"The players worked very hard in pre-season and it shows in the last 20 minutes of our last two games that we look fitter and are taking our opportunities."

Townsend was not the only one impressed by Warriors' display.

The Glasgow club were expected by many to be contenders for the PRO12 title this year, and Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones was well taken by the Scots' latest fine showing.

He said: "I thought it showed the quality of Glasgow - they played some rugby and are surfing the top of the wave. You've got to enjoy it when you have it."

Next up is a battle of the front-runners on Friday when Warriors host second-placed Connacht, who are unbeaten so far in the league campaign.
