GLASGOW WARRIORS will be on their guard against a Montpellier side with a point to prove, according to head coach Gregor Townsend.

The Warriors welcome the French cracks to Scotstoun tomorrow knowing only a win - and probably a bonus point - will do to keep them in contention of progressing in European Rugby Champions Cup.

As things stand Glasgow are in second place in Pool Four with just two games remaining for them to try and either somehow catch leaders Toulouse or earn one of the three best runners-up spots.

Tomorrow's showdown at Scotstoun represents Glasgow's penultimate game of the section against a Montpellier side already out of contention for qualification to the knockout phase.

While playing the team with just two points has its advantages, head coach Townsend admits it will also have its challenges.

He explained: "Montpellier are a dangerous side as they come to Scotstoun with nothing to lose and the players have an opportunity to impress their new coach.

"They are a team who like to offload and have a lot of quality throughout their squad.

"We're still in the tournament ahead of Round 5 and we'll be doing all we can to remain in contention to qualify for the quarter-finals come Round 6."

In total, Townsend has made three changes to the Glasgow starting line-up for tomorrow's 1pm kick-off.

Canadian winger DTH van der Merwe replaces the injured Sean Lamont and starts on the left wing, with Scotland international Tommy Seymour switching to the opposite side.

The other changes are in the front-row, with props Ryan Grant and Jon Welsh coming in for Jerry Yanuyanutawa and Mike Cusack, who are named amongst the replacements.

That means Peter Murchie is retained at full-back, with Seymour and Van der Merwe completing the back three.

Alex Dunbar and Peter Horne continue their centre partnership, while Finn Russell and Niko Matawalu is the half-back pairing.

Alongside Grant and Welsh in the front-row, is hooker Pat MacArthur, with Tim Swinson and Jonny Gray continuing in the engine room.

There are no changes in the back-row, with Leone Nakarawa on the blindside, Ryan Wilson at openside and No.8 Josh Strauss once again captaining the team.

Included on the bench is Mark Bennett, who returns after a nine-week spell on the sidelines. The centre could make his first appearance since representing Scotland in the narrow defeat to New Zealand at BT Murrayfield in November.

Also named among the replacements is prop Cusack, who played for 40 minutes of last weekend's win over the Scarlets, but could make his first appearance for the Warriors in Europe since December 2012.

Scrum-half Henry Pyrgos is also named on the bench after overcoming injury and could feature for the first time since the win over Edinburgh Rugby at the end of December.

Townsend added: "It's great to have Henry Pyrgos and Mark Bennett back.

"Henry has missed the last couple of games through injury and Mark has been out for nine weeks, but he's been training well for the last couple of weeks and had half an hour of rugby against Scotland under-20s on Tuesday."
